Most magical time of the year
6th November 2023

This picture is shot before sunrise out of our bedroom window. Isn't it amazing? We find late October / early November the most mesmerising time of the year. Crisp early morning temperatures combined with the humidity in the valleys create the typical morning fog, or nebbia in Italian, after which the grape variety Nebbiolo has been named. Not to forget of course the white truffles that tend to be best during this time of the year.

Location

La Famulenta 17 is situated among the gently sloping hills covered by vines and hazelnut outside the smallest city of Italy, Moncalvo, in the Monferrato, in Piemonte. We are surrounded by the beautiful hilltop villages of Grazzano Badoglio, Casorzo, Calliano and Grana. Moncalvo can be reached after a short 7 minute car ride where you will find a range of restaurants, cafes, small grocery stores and supermarkets and a communal wine cellar.

Alternatively, drive a little further to visit our provincial capital Asti, Casale Monferrato or Alessandria.

Most guests will of course also venture a little further south to the famous area of the Langhe. There's Alba, the region's vibrant, pretty capital; Bra, home of the Slow Food Movement; Pollenzo, host to the University of Gastronomic Sciences, and the constellation of charming vineyard villages that includes La Morra, Neive, Barolo and Barbaresco.
