Just 10 minutes by car from Moncalvo, Italy’s smallest city, where you will find local bakeries, butchers and supermarkets plus a large produce market every Thursday morning. Or enjoy an aperitivo at one of the friendly cafes on the main square.
Travel just a little further to explore the towns of Asti and Casale Monferrato with their fascinating local history and architecture. The palio (medieval festival with horse races) takes place every September.
The Monferrato region surrounds you here and offers many local food and wine festivals throughout the year while local winemakers provide the opportunity to taste and buy their products. Look out for the local barbera, grignolino and malvasia specialities. Shop in style in Milan (1 ½ hours) or carry on north to Lake Como. Or experience historic Turin (1 hour) and the mountains and Gran Paradiso national parks a little further north of the city.
Alternatively the Ligurian coast is just 1 hour’s drive to the south. The opportunities are limitless.
